No. 1 'Bachelor' Moment: Brad Womack's Double Rejection
And so it’s come to this, rose lovers. The No. 1 “most amazing” Bachelor moment of all time, as determined by ABC.
What’s the absolute worst thing a star of The Bachelor can do? If you answered, “identity theft,” “subjecting someone to more than one two-on-one dates,” or “committing murder,” you’d be incorrect. The answer: The absolute worst thing a Bachelor can do — according to ABC and Team Bachelor — is get to the end of the season and not freaking propose to either woman! Now, I say “according to ABC and Team Bachelor,” because if you ask me, a Bachelor being honest about how he’s feeling — or in this case, not feeling — and deciding not to offer a half-assed proposal to anyone… well, in my opinion, that Bachelor is a hero.
But back in Season 11, when Bachelor Brad Womack told both Jenni and Deanna goodbye in the season finale, you’d have thought he set the Bachelor mansion on fire with Chris Harrison in it. How DARE he refuse to enter into a lifelong commitment with one of two women he met approximately six weeks earlier? Indeed, when Womack returned as Bachelor in Season 15 (!), contestant Chantal slapped him across the face on behalf of “every woman in America.”
Anyhow, all’s well that ends well: Deanna Pappas, so brokenhearted in the clip above, went on to become the fourth Bachelorette — though she did not meet her soulmate on the show. Instead, she married Stephen Stagliano, twin brother of Season 5 Bachelorette contestant Michael Stagliano, in 2011. (Got that?) Jenni Croft, meanwhile, is happily married with children as well.
Thanks for taking this top 20 “journey” with me, rose lovers. Tune in tonight for ABC’s Valentine’s Day special The Bachelor at 20: A Celebration of Love.
