Grieving Turkey Befriends Rescued Goat in Heartwarming Video

There's something so special about animal friendships, especially when the friends are two animals that you wouldn't normally think of as becoming besties. @Sleep Pig Farm is a farm animal sanctuary that rescues abused animals and animals going to slaughter. They recently saved a couple of baby goats from slaughter, and one of them found an unexpected friend.

Let me start from the beginning. Lennie is a turkey whose bestie was a goat named Blanca. She passed away due to old age a few weeks ago, leaving Lennie heartbroken. At the end of November 2023, the farm rescued two little goats, Harry and Lloyd. Lloyd unfortunately is in the hospital, leaving Harry all alone. Harry was put in the same area that Blanca lived, and Lennie immediately started spending time with the scared goat.

@Sleep Pig Farm's video totally made my day! This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship, and I'll definitely be following along to watch as their friendship blossoms. Who would've thought that a turkey and a goat could become besties?! I'm also hoping that Henry's friend Lloyd pulls through so that the trio can become the Three Muskateers.

Do Animals Really Make Friends?

If you watch enough TikToks, you'll find that some animals make odd couples but best friends. There's Luna the panther and her best friend who's a Rottweiler. A pit bull and a magpie are besties too, and don't forget the cow that was trying to get a tortoise to hang out. It makes sense that two mini fluffy cows would like each other, but even though a duck in a wheelchair and a goat might not make a whole lot of sense, it works for them!

An article at Slate.com discusses how these odd interspecies friendships come to be, and it's quite interesting. While a black panther and a Rottweiler might seem like they'd want to attack each other instead of play together, I found this quote, and reasoning for the friendships, noteworthy, "Animals can forge bonds across species boundaries if the need for social contact pre-empts their normal biological imperatives. A cat raised with dogs doesn’t know it’s a cat, the logic goes." That makes sense and explains why the panther doesn't want to eat the dog since they were raised together.

Maybe Lennie doesn't know he's a turkey, or maybe he doesn't care that Henry is different from him. Commenter @MerediSpirali shared, "I love the interspecies friendships! I volunteer at a farm sanctuary where I see that a lot and it’s so sweet"! Sounds like us humans could learn a thing or two from these animals!
