Do Us a Favor and Buy This Viper-Engined BMW Z4

From Road & Track

This is probably the least traditional engine swap we've seen in a while. Someone in Germany took the 8.3-liter V10 out of a Dodge Viper, and stuffed it into a first-generation BMW Z4 Coupe. And it's for sale. Oh yes.

This Z4 started out life with a standard, naturally aspirated straight-six engine that made, at most, 320 horsepower. Clearly, the owner didn't think that was enough, because this new Viper motor is pushing out 540 horsepower and 550 lb.-ft. of torque from the crank.

In addition to the unusual engine swap, the owner added an impressively complex yellow roll cage, which looks to be suitable for actual road racing. There's also some huge six-piston brakes taken straight off an Audi R8, and a completely stripped out, race-prepped interior.

Despite all of these modifications, the car still looks fairly stock. Because it was designed with straight six engine power from the get-go, fitting a V10 into the engine bay probably wasn't all that difficult. The most confusing part of this car is figuring out why the owner didn't just swap in the smaller, BMW sourced 5.0-liter V10 from the E60 M5. Either way, we're not complaining.

The car is currently listed on eBay Motors in Germany, with a price of 49,500 Euros. Stateside readers will probably have a hard time getting their hand on it, but anyone else interested in a Z4 frankenstein track monster better act fast.
