Law enforcement agencies to increase patrols for Memorial Day weekend. Here’s where

(FOX40.COM) — Drivers should expect to see an increased presence of officers on California roadways for Memorial Day weekend.

The California Highway Patrol is starting a statewide Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) on Friday at 6:01 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Monday.

During the agency’s enforcement period on Memorial Day weekend in 2023, there were 1,100 DUI arrests and 46 people killed in crashes during a 78-hour period.

“Loss of life on our roads is preventable when drivers make safe and responsible choices behind the wheel,” CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said. “Always remember to drive sober, avoid distraction, adhere to the speed limit, and ensure adults are buckled up and children are properly secured in an appropriate car seat.”

California DMV will no longer process these services at offices

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,000 in fines and penalties and a suspended license.
