Land Rover Unveils Toughest 2019 Discovery SVX in Frankfurt

In Frankfurt, this week Land Rover revealed the 2019 Discovery SVX, which it says is the “most extreme” SUV in its lineup. Designed to go anywhere, the rugged midsize premium SUV is equipped with supercharged V-8 power, body and suspension lifts for extra ground clearance and large all-terrain tires with a specially tuned off-road system for mountain, rock and mud adventures. It will reach dealer showrooms next year, officials said.

Painted in satin Tectonic Gray, the Discovery SVX features visual cues borrowed from Land Rover vehicles that participated in Camel Trophy and GR Challenge events. Unique front and rear bumpers with protective skid plates and exposed Rush Orange-finished metal tow hooks, an anti-glare hood finish and an integrated rear-mounted electric winch system are included.

The cabin interior combines materials in two-tone colors with Rush Orange accents and “X” logo perforations on seats. Black side vents with V-8 badges, Narvik black dynamic grille, roof rails and roof-mounted unit with additional light pods for low-light visibility are also part of the SVX package. A Pistol shifter replaces the standard Discovery rotary shifter for easier gear changes off road.

The 2019 Discovery SVX, is hand crafted to appeal to “off-road enthusiasts seeking epic adventure,” at Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Technical Center. This new SUV is built on the model’s fifth-generation strong, light aluminum platform introduced in 2016. Power comes from a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine that makes 525 horsepower and 625 lb.-ft. of torque.

To tackle tough terrain, the SVX adds Hydraulic Active Roll Control (H-ARC) for increased wheel and body control, better off-road traction while reducing body roll during on-road driving. The SVX has been lifted with four-corner air suspension, long-travel dampers and revamped knuckles to fit larger Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires on its aluminum wheels. Active center and electronic rear locking differentials work with the new specially tuned Terrain Response 2 system for optimal traction on all surfaces. Software for the 8-speed automatic transmission with twin-speed transfer box also has been modified to adjust dynamics for all conditions.
