FHP investigating fatal Sarasota County accident at Clark Road and I-75 early Sunday

A 24-year-old Avon Park man died in a two-car accident on Clark Road early Sunday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The accident happened at Catamaran Drive near the Interstate 75 interchange.

Both cars were traveling east about 2:30 a.m. on Clark Road when the man driving a sedan struck the back of a Jeep driven by a 26-year-old Bradenton woman, who was slowing, the FHP reported. The sedan went off the road, striking a street light and fence, and the unidentified man was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The unidentified Bradenton man was not injured. A 25-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Jeep sustained minor injuries, the FHP reported.

The FHP said the accident remains under investigation.

The Sheriff's Office assisted in the accident. Eastbound Clark Road from Gannt Road to I-75 was shut down for several hours after the accident.
