Emergency response exercise to take place at Columbus Airport on Friday, city says

An emergency response exercise will be conducted by Columbus‐Muscogee County Homeland Security and Emergency Management department at the Columbus Airport Friday morning, according to a news release.

The exercise will be held between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. inside the secured/fenced areas of the airport, according to the release.

Local agencies involved include Columbus Airport Public Safety department, Columbus Police Department, Columbus Fire and EMS, Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, local healthcare facilities, and others.

“The exercise will involve a pre‐selected scenario based on an aircraft emergency resulting in the anticipated response by first responders from the Columbus area,” according to the release.

This type of emergency exercise is required every three years for the Columbus Airport and will also satisfy annual exercise requirements of the Columbus‐Muscogee County Homeland Security and Emergency Management department, officials stated.
