Washington Humane Society Shares Brutally Honest Review of Adoptable Cat

Shelters always want to find homes for the cats and dogs they have in their care, but sometimes they have a cat or dog that needs a home that may be a little less than appealing to some adopters. In that case, honesty is the best policy because the quirks of a pet that may turn some people off may be exactly the quirks that another person will fall in love with.

That's the case with a beautiful Calico named Quinn who was the focus of a brutally honest Facebook description by The Humane Society of Washington County.

The post reads in part, "Do you want a cat who doesn't want you? Do you crave the feeling of being judged in your own home? Do you need someone who will slap you back into reality without notice?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we have the cat for you! Meet Quinn! She's our longest-term cat resident, and we get it -- Quinn's not for everyone. But surely there's someone out there who would appreciate her icy stare and her sudden smacks!"

The description of the beautiful Calico cat Quinn continues, "Tired of visitors coming to your house? Adopt Quinn! She has an uncanny ability to make people feel unwelcome in her presence!

Not a big fan of physical activity? That's perfect! Quinn only seems to want to play about once a month.

Quinn is essentially a more lively houseplant, because all she really needs a human for is food, water, and changing her litter. If you adopt Quinn, you will not be her owner, because Quinn cannot be owned. She will own you, your house, your belongings, and everything you hold dear."

The best part of this entire story is that the shelter posted an update on December 1 that Quinn has found her forever home for the holidays!

If you had fallen in love with Quinn and wanted to take her home with you, never fear, because there are hundreds of cats, if not thousands, just like her in shelters across the United States looking for their very own family.

Here's why you should consider adopting a long term shelter cat.

What you see is what you get.

Sure, there's nothing cuter than a tiny kitten, but it takes a while for their personalities to develop. Will the cuddly little kitten you adopt stay cuddly and affectionate? Or will it be more aloof as an adult? With an adult cat their personalities are pretty fixed and you can tell how playful, affectionate or independent they are. Yes, a cat will behave differently when it's at your home versus the shelter, but you can still get a pretty good idea of their personality.

Their kitten ya-yas are pretty much over when they are adults.

Yes, a playful kitten can be a ton of fun and watching your little floof ball run around is terribly amusing... until they climb up your Christmas tree or curtains. And let's not forget kittens tend to scratch furniture more than an adult cat who can easily use a scratching post.

Adult cats cost less in initial veterinary bills.

Initial vaccinations and spay neuter fees are all ready paid for in adult cats.

Long term adult shelter cats just seem to understand.

Ask anyone who has adopted an adult shelter cat and they can tell you it's almost like their cat knows it has gotten a second chance at a happy life with a loving family. These cats just seem so grateful.

Older cats have a more difficult time getting adopted than kittens.

The ASPCA reports that among the 3.2 million cats entering U.S. animal shelters every year are countless senior felines—those over 10 years old—tragically overlooked by potential adopters due to their age. Due to shelter overcrowding this situation has only gotten worse. Potential adopters feel that a kitten will adjust to their family easier but that isn't necessarily the case. Your local shelter would be happy to introduce you to older cats that do well in homes with other cats, small children and dogs.

If you are considering adding a fur baby to your home this holiday season, please consider adopting a long term shelter cat like Quinn. These cats can end up making just the most wonderful pets you can imagine. Check with your local Humane Society, animal shelter, or cat rescue to see what adoptable kitties they have available. You will not only be adding a new pet to your home for your household to love and care for, but you'll be saving the life of an older cat who deserves a loving forever home. There's pretty much nothing better than that.
