San Diego Zoo Shows Cool Video of a Day in the Life of a Polar Bear Biologist

Many kids dream of working with animals, and some actually get to grow up and do it. @San Diego Zoo shared a video on Friday, November 3rd that allowed us all to take a trip as a day in the life of a polar bear biologist, and it's making a lot of us rethink our career paths!

A polar 'burr' biologist's day starts at around 7 AM, when they check the weather as they have breakfast. They wait for confirmation from the helicopter pilot that they can head out for the next 6-9 hours as weather permits. They fly out over the sea ice to track the bears, which is not always easy to do. Once they find a bear, they assess it and safely tranquilize it from the air. They take all kinds of measurements and collect other data about the bear. Then it's off to find the next bear!

What a cold but cool job these guys have! Can you imagine holding a huge polar bear claw like the one the biologist was holding up? I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to get that close to a sleeping bear!

I was really interested in the video, but not many others were. This @San Diego Zoo video only got around 6 thousand views and three comments. Where is everybody at?! @bruhlissa dreamed, "Oh to touch a polar bear". @Aime Duran expressed her love for the zoo (it's one of my favorite zoos, too!)

Hopefully the video will get some more traction. If it could make it to For You TikTok pages, I think people would enjoy it!
