Earlier this week we reported that three-time world champ Mick Fanning was mourning the tragic sudden death of his brother, Edward.

Ed was living and working at a surf camp in Madagascar. Ed's death is the third time the family has lost a brother and son since 1998.

Yesterday the Kirra Surfriders Club, which the Fanning brothers were members of, revealed Ed's cause of death in the post below.

The club revealed the cause in the post above, writing:

"It's with a very sad and heavy heart that we say goodbye to one of our great and beloved KSC members Ed Fanning

"As many of you know Ed had been living and working in Madagascar since covid and loved the place so much he took citizenship over there. Ed received a cut to his foot which unfortunately got severely infected to the point he had to be rushed by boat to the nearest major city an hour away, to be in hospital. The hospital did everything they could to help Ed but the infection was too strong and Ed’s heart gave away.

"Our biggest condolences go out to the whole Fanning Family in this very difficult time.

"And I’d also like to say a massive thank you to another great KSC member in Blair Rodgers who was by Ed’s side thru out this whole ordeal and has been a massive help to the Fanning Family working their way thru this.

"RIP Legend"

According to reports, Mick is one of four brothers. In 1998, Sean Fanning died in a car wreck. Then in 2015, Peter tragically passed away too.

Shortly after the news of Ed's passing broke, Mick posted a heartfelt goodbye message on Instagram.

In the lengthy caption that you can read here, Mick wrote:

"Mick, one of four brothers, has seen his three siblings die prematurely after Peter died in 2015 while Sean died in a car crash at Coolangatta in 1998."

Rest in peace, Ed.
