When we first learned about the new Volvo S60 last week, we were especially intrigued about the hybrid "Polestar-Engineered" version. Volvo announced today that for the 2019 model year, it'll offer this 415-hp exclusively through its Care By Volvo subscription program for $1100 a month. Oh, and it's only going to bring 20 of them to the US, and all were spoken for within an hour.

This story was updated at 6/29/2018 to reflect that all US-bound examples of the 2019 S60 T8 Polestar Engineered have been spoken for.

That means, statistically, you'll have a greater chance of seeing a 2019 Ford GT than a 2019 S60 T8 Polestar Engineered. If you spot a new S60 sporting a Polestar logo, know that you're looking at one of the rarest cars in the country.

The old Polestar V60 and S60-which featured more extensive modifications than this 2019 Polestar Engineered car-came to the US in limited numbers, too. Only a few hundred per year made their way to this country starting in 2014. But this is a new level of scarcity for a Polestar-badged Volvo.

This could change, though. A knowledgeable source tells R&T that Volvo will likely bring the S60 T8 Polestar Engineered to the US in greater numbers after 2019, depending on demand. You might be able to buy one outright, too, rather than using Volvo's subscription service.

But if you need a 2019 model-year S60 with serious power, and you're not one of the lucky 20, you'll need to settle for the regular 400-hp T8 hybrid, which costs $54,400. You'll have to forgo the Polestar Engineered version's upgraded brakes, dampers, and strut bar, but you'll still get a quick car.

If you have to have a S60 T8 Polestar Engineered, you'll just have to wait another year. And to the 20 customers who are getting 2019s, briefly, you'll have one of the rarest cars in the country.
