‘Suspicious death’ being investigated in Marlboro County; SLED assisting, deputies say

MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what they call a “suspicious death” after a person was found shot to death along the highway Friday afternoon, the department said.

Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle along the shoulder of Highway 38 South. When they arrived, they found a person dead lying beside the vehicle with a gunshot wound, deputies said.

The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division is handling the case with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s crime scene unit.

The death is being treated as a suspicious death until all evidence is processed and the investigation is completed, deputies said.

Details are limited at this time and more information will be released as the investigation continues.
