Want an old Porsche race car, but don't want a 911? Well, you're in luck. This 904 GTS just popped up for sale in the Netherlands. It raced in period, including in the 1964 Spa 500 Km, finishing second in class. Now, it can be yours.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

According to the selling dealer, the car comes with detailed ownership documentation that dates to when the car was new. It's reportedly been well-maintained, and comes with its original mid-mounted twin-cam flat-four and five-speed manual transmission. The engine was recently rebuilt by a professional Porsche mechanic, meaning the car is ready to participate in any of your favorite vintage racing events. The red paint shines nicely, and the tight two-seater cockpit looks to be complete.

The 904 was Porsche's replacement for the 718, sporting a lightweight fiberglass body and a slippery aerodynamic design. It was successful in-period, taking first and second in class at the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans and an overall victory at the Targa Florio. Just 109 examples were built, meaning they're pretty hard to come by.

This one is currently listed for sale via a dealership called Very Superior Old Cars in the Netherlands. There isn't any price listed, but considering an Irish Green example sold at auction for over $1.4 million five years back, it's safe to assume the car is going to be expensive.
