Former Sumter County Code Enforcement Officer facing 16 theft charges

SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — A Former Sumter County Code Enforcement Officer is facing 16 counts of theft by conversion after turning herself in to the sheriff’s office on Tuesday.

Heather Nicole Beamon handled payments for building permits and business licenses during her time as a code enforcement officer. According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Beamon is being charged for allegedly keeping some of the cash funds to herself.

The sheriff’s office received the initial complaint on April 25. During the investigation, the sheriff’s office says Beamon confessed to one of the sixteen counts of theft by conversion.

As the investigation continued, the sheriff’s office found fifteen other instances where cash was received but not deposited or accounted for. Further investigation shows there may be more instances.
