We Can't Get Enough of This Subtle Mazda RX-3 Sleeper

An RX-7 motor pushing 400 horses makes this no-nonsense Mazda a sneaky sleeper.

From Road & Track

The best fast cars are the ones that don't shout about how fast they are, like this Mazda RX-3. MMA fighter Savant Young kept the looks of his car subtle, with a gunship grey paint job and black BBS wheels, but its RX-7-sourced motor makes around 400 horsepower. It's likely you won't see this RX-3 coming until it's passed you.

Our friends at Petrolicious profiled Young's car in this latest video. Young says the car is a reflection of himself; always ready for anything. Back when it was stock, this 1973 Mazda was fairly quick, its rotary engine putting out about 90 horses. But it's in a whole different league today.

A single-turbo, water-injected rotary feeds its power through a Toyota-sourced five-speed gearbox and a Toyota pickup rear end. The only indicators that this is a fast car are the externally-mounted air filter and a screaming exhaust note.

This isn't the first time we've seen this car, either: Jay Leno's Garage featured it in a video last summer and it blew Leno's mind. With sleeper looks and serious performance, this is the type of build we love.
