President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani said that special counsel Robert Mueller expects to wrap up the portion of his Russia probe focusing on the president’s potential obstruction by Sept. 1, The New York Times reported Sunday. The former New York City mayor told the Times that Mueller’s office gave the Trump team that timeline two weeks ago, amid negotiations on whether Trump would be willing to be interviewed by Mueller’s team, Giuliani said. The Times’ report suggested that Giuliani may be trying to put public pressure on Mueller by sharing that end date.

A cougar attacked two mountain bikers in Washington state Saturday morning, killing one and seriously injuring the other man. A 100-pound male cougar, three or four years old, was tracked down with the help of two dogs and killed by wildlife officials.
China's air force has landed bombers on islands and reefs in the South China Sea as part of a training exercise in the disputed region, it said in a statement. "A division of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) recently organized multiple bombers such as the H-6K to conduct take-off and landing training on islands and reefs in the South China Sea in order to improve our ability to 'reach all territory, conduct strikes at any time and strike in all directions'," it said in the statement issued on Friday. It said the pilot of the H-6K bomber conducted assault training on a designated sea target and then carried out take-offs and landings at an airport in the area, describing the exercise as preparation for "the West Pacific and the battle for the South China Sea".
Hawaii County civil defense officials are warning residents that lava may cross a highway in the coming hours. Officials say a flow is less than a mile (kilometer) away from Highway 137 in the Big Island's Puna district where lava has oozed out of fissures in the ground. Police announced the arrests of two people Saturday in a fatal shooting outside a high school graduation ceremony in Georgia. One woman was killed and another was wounded by gunfire Friday night following an argument in a high school parking lot across from the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, where the Perry Career Academy had just held its commencement for graduating seniors.
