Motorcyclist dead after hit-and-run crash on I-40 in Donelson

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 35-year-old man from Joelton died after a hit-and-run crash while riding with a group of motorcyclists on Interstate 40 late Thursday night.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes near the Briley Parkway interchange in Donelson around 11:45 p.m.

According to Metro police, Justin Fortner died at the scene in the crash. Investigators believe he was with a group of other bikers riding with a Buick Enclave, which was acting as a tail/buffer car.

The driver of the Buick told officers a truck, possibly a semi, traveled around her and struck Fortner, according to a release. This truck reportedly did not stop and continued north on Briley Parkway as Fortner was thrown from the motorcycle.

The Buick sustained front-end damage from crashing into the motorcycle after the initial collision. Detectives are working to confirm the Buick driver’s details of how the crash occurred, according to a release.
