YMCA of Central Stark County to offer free summer programs to eligible youth

CANTON – The YMCA of Central Stark County has received a $100,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives.

Eligible Stark County families (200% of federal poverty level for households with students K-12, and noncustodial parents with students K-12) can participate in YMCA summer programs, at no cost to families once registration is complete and TANF self attestation has been turned in.

Qualifying programs are at any YMCA of Central Stark County branch and YMCA Camp Tippecanoe in Harrison County. Programs include summer resident camp, sports camps, sports leagues, summer specialty camps, along with many other valuable programs to benefit children and families in the community.

A highlight of the summer programming is a Cavs Academy Summer Basketball Clinic at the Eric Snow Family YMCA from 9 a.m. to noon June 7. The clinic is free and exclusively for youth entering grades 3-6 who meet TANF eligibility requirements. Participants will receive a free practice top and instruction from Jr. Cavs coaches.

A second Cavs Academy is scheduled for June 28 at the Alliance Family YMCA.

Participants must register for programs at a YMCA branch. TANF self attestation forms must be completed and turned in at the time of registration. For program information, visit www.ymcastark.org or your local YMCA of Central Stark County branch.
