You can redeem yourself by taking your mom on an adventure to several places in Delaware offering fun activities or events on her special day.

Here are seven ideas for celebrating Mother's Day, which lands on Sunday, May 12.

'Little Women' brings Broadway to Wilmington

Instead of traveling all the way to New York to get the Broadway musical experience, you can enjoy it from the comfort of Wilmington when "Little Women: The Musical" tours to The Playhouse on Rodney Square. As part of The Grand's finale for its Broadway in Wilmington season, this major musical follows the journey of a group of sisters who are determined to live life on their own terms. The production is two hours and 30 minutes with one intermission, and it features five performances from Thursday, May 9 to Sunday, May 12.

You and mama can sip and paint the town any color she'd like during this Watercolor & Wine class in Dover. Whether you struggle to make stick figures or are a master painter, this experience is good for people of all skill levels. A professional artist will direct you through basic watercolor techniques as you enjoy a glass of wine (or a non-alcoholic drink of your choice).

Rockwood Jazz High Tea affair

Rekindle the magic of having a tea party with your favorite stuffed animal, except this time you're grown and can afford to treat your mom to a nice sip instead of your Teddy bear. This event at Rockwood Park & Museum puts a jazzy twist on classic Victorian tea events, with live music performed by University of Delaware jazz pianist Logan Slansky. Light refreshments will be served. (Teddy bears are welcome but optional.)

Mother's Day comedy show with Tu Rae & others

A packed night of laughs and tunes are going down for a special Mother's Day comedy jam. With music by DJ Mega Skills, guests will have to survive a tickle test conducted by comics such as internet sensation Keith Norman (KleonTheComedian), who boasts over 500,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram. There's also Ashima Franklin, Hamburger, Tu Rae, Charles Walden, Coby Jackk and Denny Live!

'The Bodyguard' the musical hits Rehoboth Beach

This stage adaptation of the 1992 film starring singer Whitney Houston is coming to Rehoboth Beach in the romantic musical thriller "The Bodyguard."

The production tells the story of a bodyguard hired to protect a superstar singer from a stalker. Both professionals expect to be the boss. But what they don't anticipate is falling in love. "The Bodyguard" features Whitney Houston's tunes like "I Will Always Love You," "One Moment in Time," and more.

Longwood Gardens launches Festival of Fountains

One of the most popular attractions at the renowned Longwood Gardens is its annual Festival of Fountains. This ambitious display features over 1,700 jets that spin and dance, spouting water as high as 175 feet. Although photos of these fountains are captivating, they're extra charming when you see them in person.

This festival is also a good excuse to explore Longwood's sea of flowers. This Delaware attraction is a winner of the 2024 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards

Timed tickets and membership reservations for the Festival of Fountains are currently available every half hour throughout Mother's Day weekend, between 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11; and 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12 (except at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.). 

Tickets for adults $32 (age 19 or older); senior $28 (age 65+) and college student with photo ID; $23 active military & veteran (photo ID); $17 youth (5-18 years old); $2 SNAP/EBT/PA access cardholders (with physical card and matching photo ID; max 4 people per card).
