Sanctuary’s Story of Rescued Mama Pig and Her Babies Is Touching People’s Hearts

Just in time for the holiday season, here's a heartwarming story with a happy ending! @The Gentle Barn shared a story on Thursday, December 21st about how they came to be called home to some of their residents, and it will definitely make you smile.

The story is about a rescued pig, Menorah, who just celebrated her 4-year rescue anniversary. The Gentle Barn founders drove for two days from California to Washington to rescue not only Menorah, but her eight piglets as well! Turns out Menorah was going to be someone's Christmas dinner, but when she unexpectedly gave birth to her babies, the family decided to let her be a mama instead of a meal, and that's when The Gentle Barn stepped in to save them.

I love a happy ending! Four years later and Menorah and her babies (they're no longer little!) are living their best lives at @The Gentle Barn! I loved how they clipped the videos together so we could watch as the adorable piglets grew and thrived over the years. They are definitely well taken care of and loved!

How To Help and Support Animal Sanctuaries

Not all of us have the space (or even the desire) to rescue animals, but you can still help support them. The good news is that you don't have to have a lot of money to support animal rescues and sanctuaries like The Gentle Barn. Of course, rescuing and giving these animals a good life does take a ton of money, but it also takes time, resources, and a lot of helping hands to maintain their home. You may not be able to adopt a rescued pet, but you could foster a pet until they find their forever home. If that doesn't work for you, consider helping by transporting these animals to and from shelters for adoption events.

Many rescues and shelters need volunteers to come in and help care for these animals. It would be a fun (and educational) way to spend time together as a family. You can also donate things like food, supplies, or even gift cards. And I know I said you can volunteer, but I just want to reiterate that most of these sanctuaries really do need help, and it doesn't cost a thing do donate your time.

Another way to help without spending a penny is to support them online and by word of mouth. Follow your favorite and local shelters and rescues on social media. Like and comment on their posts and share the posts that are important to you. You can share their fundraising efforts as well. Encourage friends and family to do the same. The more eyes that see what they do, the greater chance they have of finding donations and volunteers for their animals. Not to mention that helping support a cause you believe in will always make you feel good yourself!
