NYC Shelter Pit Bull With Zero Adoption Applications Deserves So Much More

If I had it my way, shelter dogs would hardly have to wait before being matched with the perfect forever home. Although a stay in a shelter is a part of many pups' rescue journeys, it can be a depressing, stressful, and confusing experience.

Fortunately, there are also many selfless animal rescuers who make shelter pets' stays as stress-free as possible. They do their very best to keep dogs, cats, and small animals happy, healthy, and stimulated, but nothing could ever stack up to a loving forever home.

On March 11, the TikTok account @adoptapet posted a sweet video of a shelter dog named Cloudy Rainbow, who had zero adoption applications. He's a favorite among shelter office staff and social media fans alike, but no one he met at adoption events had shown any interest.

Aww! Cloudy Rainbow seems like the most gentle, affectionate boy. It's hard to believe that everyone he met walked away without getting to know him more, especially with those enchanting puppy dog eyes. His pout could melt anyone's heart!

This precious Pit Bull is also a favorite of the office staff at the Animal Care Centers of NYC, the animal shelter he called home. They brought him to many adoption events and let him spend the day in their back office, but it took a long time for anyone to express interest in adopting him.

But that's right--someone expressed interest in this sweet shelter dog! His listing is no longer active on the shelter's website, which leads me to believe he's found his perfect home. Considering how beloved he was at the animal rescue, I know that his shelter friends would settle for nothing less!

Why Some Dogs Take Longer to Get Adopted

If you're asking yourself why this precious, well-mannered pup took so long to get adopted, you're not alone. Even his friends at the shelter were confused about what was taking so long, but it seemed that the right person just hadn't come along.

Sometimes, though, a dog's physical features can help or hinder their attempts to get adopted. Some dog breeds--like Chihuahuas, Pit Bulls, and mixed-breed dogs--are statistically less likely to be adopted, while dark-colored dogs spend a longer time in the shelter than their light-colored counterparts. Even age affects a dog's likelihood of being chosen, even though none of these traits have anything to do with how loving and affectionate a pup can be.

It may have been difficult for Cloudy Rainbow to stand out among his shelter compadres, but all that matters now is that he found his perfect home. He deserves it for being such a sweet boy!
