Massachusetts/New York Ski Areas To Resume Snowmaking This Week

Berkshire East Mountain Resort, Massachusetts, and Catamount Mountain Resort, New York/Massachusetts (Catamount straddles the New York-Massachusetts border), will blow snow this week, according to a Facebook post from Berkshire East.

"Snow will be made this week!" the Facebook post reads. "Berkshire East and Catamount aren't giving up just yet!"

The Schaefer family owns both resorts, hence the doubled-up announcement.

At Berkshire East, webcams show a distinct lack of snow, with thin white trails contrasting against mostly brown, grassy pistes. The story at Catamount is similar.

While Catamount and Berkshire East are closed this week to conserve snow—with plans to reopen over the weekend—below-freezing nighttime temperatures present an opportunity to turn on the snow guns and keep the ski season going.

"Our snowmaking crew is going to take advantage of the colder temps this week and fire up our snowguns Wednesday and Thursday nights," notes Catamount's latest mountain report. "Look for about a dozen trails to be available for the weekend."
