Players of Helldivers 2 now have access to two additional weapons to expand their arsenals – the MG-101 Heavy Machine Gun and LAS-99 Quasar Cannon have been added to the game. Requisitioning the HMG costs you 6,000 resources and the Quasar Cannon can be yours for 7,500 units – however, if you’re following the current Major Order to liberate Troost, you’ll get access to the LAS-99 Quasar Cannon for free thanks to the planet's special condition.

It’s a good time for these new weapons to show up – players aren’t exactly enthused about having to go up against the Automatons, so some new toys to sweeten the deal sound just perfect.

As you’d expect from a Heavy Machine Gun, the MG-101 sports quite a hefty recoil when it’s used from a standing position – you go prone and stabilize the weapon by mounting it on the ground. Naturally, that makes it more suitable for defense actions or a methodical push, less for quick breakthroughs that require mobility. Still, once the MG-101 gets going, it’ll rip through armored targets without a hitch.

The LAS-99 Quasar Cannon has a much lower rate of fire, requiring a little bit of warm-up before unloading its powerful attack. Afterwards, the weapon needs to cool down again. Clearly, it’s a tool designed to take down high-priority enemies with big pools of health.

The MG-101 and LAS-99 are just two of the many upcoming Helldivers 2 weapons, so developer Arrowhead has a large pool of equipment (as well as enemies to use it against) to surprise players with in the future.

For now, remember two key things: Under no circumstances throw snowballs at your fellow patriots and get to work on that Automaton front – you don’t want them to get any closer to Super Earth, do you?
