What colors should you avoid when painting your Ukrainian Easter eggs?
Few activities are more popular during the Easter season in Ukraine than decorating Easter eggs - but did you know that not all colors are appropriate for this cultural activity?
Easter is a bright holiday where Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Eggs, or "pysanky" in Ukrainian, are among the holiday's main symbols.
Ukrainians exchange their brightly decorated creations with friends and family, so it's important to understand which colors are welcomed and which should be avoided.
Let's take a look at three colors that are best avoided.

1. Black
Black is an unwelcome choice for dyeing Easter eggs as the color is associated with death and mourning, which is pretty much the opposite of the Easter theme of resurrection. Even if you want to add decorative elements to your egg, like glitter or sparkles, it's best to steer clear of black.
Likewise, other dark colors like gray, dark blue, or dark brown are also not recommended. An exception, of course, is the natural brown hue obtained by using onion skins to dye your eggs.
2. Orange
While orange may also be a natural color for chicken eggs, it's not the most suitable for decoration. While many Easter kits include orange, it's best used if complemented with additional decorative elements such as painting, stickers, beads, rhinestones, and other such items.
3. White
It's not recommended to use white to dye your eggs since the color is natural for chicken eggs and doesn't stand out as a special decorative element. If you really feel like adding white to your design, you can use stickers or additional decorative elements, but you will not need to use white dye.

Acceptable colors for dyeing Easter eggs
Ukrainian Easter eggs are usually bright and vibrant, and any other arrangement of colors can be found. Red is traditionally used on eggs as it symbolizes the blood of Christ. Other popular options include shades of red, including burgundy and pink, as well as green, blue, yellow, and purple.
It's important to remember safety when dyeing.
Only use dyes intended for food products and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Avoid getting dye on the skin or other surfaces.
