Will Celebrity Jeopardy return?

Yes! Celebrity Jeopardy! has been greenlit for a second season, although the exact return date isn't yet known.

Will the writers' and actors' strikes affect Celebrity Jeopardy?

It's possible the show's premiere date will be impacted by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors' and WGA writers' strikes. But its return is a relatively safe bet compared with most series. SAG-AFTRA’s National Code of Fair Practice for Network Television Broadcasting, known as "the Network Code," covers daytime dramas, variety shows, game shows and other unscripted projects, which means Celebrity Jeopardy! can remain in production.

One possible wrinkle could have been that Celebrity Jeopardy! (like regular Jeopardy!) is written by WGA members, who are also on strike. But per The Hollywood Reporter, Season 2 was completed before union members walked off. (Meantime, Jeopardy! will kick off the 2023-24 season by recycling material from past shows.)

In the first season, Ike Barinholtz beat out runner-up Patton Oswalt by just $1 in the Final Jeopardy round, which also saw Wil Wheaton compete. Barinholtz told The Daily Beast that he didn't know the Final Jeopardy answer and simply guessed correctly. (The clue was about a famous artist "erroneously believed to have been born in Florence"; the correct response was "Who is Leonardo Da Vinci?")

"Once Wil answered first and got it right, I knew that Patton couldn't bet more than what he had [$36,000]," he recalled. "So I just watched that all play out. It was pretty exhilarating."

As for just betting enough to win by $1, Barinholtz said it was actually purposefully done to make Patton feel better about losing, especially since the three stars were playing for charity, not personal winnings.

"For a regular game, where it's important how much you bank, it's a little bit different," he explained. "But [with Celebrity Jeopardy!], I always said, 'I just need enough to win by a dollar.' And in my mind, if you win by a dollar, then the person who comes in second feels good, like, 'I only lost by a dollar.' So I kind of knew that if I had a lead going in, I would probably need twice as much as the next-highest winner, plus one."
