Wave pools are popping up all over the place.

Arizona's getting its first this spring, wave pool giant Aventuur is bringing them to 11 more destinations in the U.S. and Mexico, and there might even be two on Oahu soon.

Let's not forget Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch and Surf Abu Dhabi, Filipe Toledo's wave pool that's coming to Brazil, and the Palm Springs Surf Club, spearheaded by pros Kalani Robb and Cheyne Magnusson.

After a five-year delay, the "largest wave park in the UK" is back on track to open in Birmingham next year, according to the story above by Coventry Live.

The "super surfing lagoon and wave park" will be constructed on 5.4 acres and pump out 1,000 waves per hour powered by WaveGarden technology.

It's expected to cost around £50 million, or $63 million, to construct.

Wave height and shape will be adjustable, maxing out at around two meters tall. Developers expect it to be up and running at the end of 2025 and serve 200,000 visitors annually.

The wave pool will feature a "surf academy, equipment rental, and surf store, restaurant areas with co-working spaces and additional recreational activities including hot tubs, a playground, and pump track," Coventry Live reported.

Plans for the wave pool were first announced back in 2019 but were put on hold due to COVID-19 until investors Stoneweg InfraSport acquired the former Emerge Surf development site. Now, it's now back on track.

Stoneweg InfraSport’s already owns a wave park in Madrid, Spain, but the UK location will boast "Europe’s largest urban beach." The company is also looking at a third wave park development in Malaga on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain.
