Surfing pets seems like a pretty new phenomenon. It feels like it wasn't long ago, maybe a decade or so, that suddenly every surfer with a dog thought it'd be cute to take Fido surfing.

But a quick internet search reveals that dogs have been surfing much longer than expected. There's footage in Honolulu's Bishop Museum archives from 1932 of a terrier named Night Hawk longboarding with her owner, Philip Auna, in the flick "On the Waves at Waikiki."

Fast forward nearly a century later, and we've got surfing cats, snakes, goats, pigs, K-9 surf contests, and dogs who surf the most coveted wave pool —Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch.

World champ Skyler the Surfing Dog has been lucky enough to surf Slater's wave pool on more than one occasion.

Two years ago, Skyler made history as the first dog to get barreled, and she earned the claim to fame at the Surf Ranch.

Yesterday, team Skyler posted footage on her Instagram page of her getting barreled again at the wave pool while going tandem with her owner, Homer Henard.

The post above is captioned:

"Skyler the Surfing dog gets pitted!"

The post shows a still shot of Skyler and Homer getting barreled on a longboard and a video of them getting pitted during a night session.

In both shots, Skyler is wearing a red life vest specially made for dogs.

In early August, Skyler announced her retirement from competitive surfing days before the World Dog Surfing Championships kicked off at Pacifica Beach, California.

In the past, Skyler surfed—and won—heats on her own. This year, she only entered the human and dog tandem division, where she took first place with Henard.
