12-Year-Old Raises Over $2K From Lemonade Stand to Help Animals At a Local Shelter

While the majority of people were enjoying the long holiday weekend and the last taste of summer, one 12-year-old didn’t take a break. Every summer for the past three years Addison Olinger runs a lemonade stand. The idea started when her grandmother's cat got sick in 2020 and now it's been a tradition to raise money for the animals in her community.

Her dedication to this annual lemonade stand brings in plenty of business, all of which is donated. But her love for animals goes well beyond raising money. You'll be blown away by her selfless acts and how much money she raised, which were shared by WQAD News 8. Take a look!

Wow, if this isn't the feel-good story to end your summer season on a sweet note, we don't know what is. It's so amazing that kids this young want to give back to their communities. Since she started running this lemonade stand every summer, she's raised over $2,000 with every dollar donated to a local animal shelter.

But her passion for helping animals doesn't just stop with making lemonade and selling baked goods. She also volunteers at the animal shelter every week. That's absolutely incredible! The hope her work and volunteering continue to raise awareness for the Iowa-based shelter and other shelters.

Having a community that supports animal shelters can truly make a difference, especially as shelters around the country are facing overcrowding. Donations, no matter how big or small, can truly go a long way as shelters are constantly buying pet food and supplies. Volunteering your time is beneficial for the animals as they have a chance to get out of the cages for at least a little bit. Fostering is also a great way to help out because it frees up space for other animals to come in and it gives the animals a loving home. We hope this girl inspires you to help out your local shelter in any way you can!
