One month after the 21-year-old son of Christian rapper TobyMac unexpectedly died, the Grammy winner is speaking out about the “overwhelming love” his family has received since the sudden tragedy.

A spokesperson for the performer first confirmed the passing of his son, Truett Foster McKeehan, to Yahoo Entertainment in late October, saying that he had passed at his home in the Nashville area. Now, TobyMac, whose real name is Kevin Michael McKeehan, is giving some insight to fans about how he and his family have been moving forward.

In an emotional thread on Twitter, the 55-year-old shared some words about mourning his firstborn son, in addition to posting photos from a memorial service where loved ones gathered by the dozens.

TobyMac wrote that “God has poured out His love on us through people” and thanked everyone for their “gentle and compassionate hearts.”

A representative for TobyMac didn’t immediately respond to Yahoo Entertainment’s request for comment. However, photos show that pallbearers wore red sweatshirts that read “Shiloh” in honor of Truett’s stage name.

The aspiring rapper, who had his first performance at The Factory in Franklin, Tenn. just days before his death, also went by the names TruDog and Tru.

“So from the valley of the shadow of death we pray a flood of thankfulness will rise this week,” TobyMac wrote. “Thankfulness to a kind God who is not afraid.”
