2015 Dodge Challenger Now Available With Retro Shaker Hood

Motor Authority

Strong demand for the Challenger’s retro Shaker hoods has spurred Dodge to offer them once again on the updated version of the iconic muscle car, and this time buyers of both the Challenger R/T as well as the Challenger 392 can install it. There are three different packages to choose from: R/T Shaker, R/T Plus Shaker and 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker.

The special hood isn’t just a cosmetic upgrade as it helps feed more cold air into the engine. It features an opening to make way for an air scoop, which is now mounted directly to the engine and shakes away with the powertrain’s movement, hence the name. To dress up the scoop, designers have added a classic satin black finish.

Integrated with the scoop is a Mopar cold-air intake, conical air filter and optimized air box for improved airflow and performance. Lift the hood and enthusiasts will also be treated to an under-hood Shaker graphic that’s reminiscent of the 1970s original.

The R/T models get Dodge’s 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, which delivers a rather limp 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Thankfully, those seeking more power can now upgrade to the 392 HEMI, whose 6.4-liter V-8 lump delivers a stonking 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. The latter will turn in mid-4.0-second 0-60 mph times and low 12-second quarter mile times; these may not be Hellcat-like figures but should be plenty fast for most.
