Ford Unveils New Look And Engines For The 2017 Escape

Ford pulled the wraps off of its 2017 Escape along Hollywood Boulevard Monday night, two days before the start of the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new compact crossover would have fit right in with the traffic with its refreshed exterior, new powertrain and updated technology features.

The Escape is Ford’s No. 2 selling vehicle with more than 300,000 units sold last year. (The No. 1 selling vehicle is the F Series pickup truck, which is also the No. 1 selling vehicle in America.)

The new Escape, which Ford calls the fourth generation, includes two turbocharged Ecoboost engines, a 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter. Both engines include start/stop technology, which Ford attributes a 4- to 6-percent gain in city fuel economy. The 1.5L engine produces 180 hp and 185 lb.-ft. of torque. The more powerful 2.0L engines creates 245 hp and 275 lb.-ft. of torque. The base engine for the Escape will continue to be a 2.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine.

The Escape doesn’t drastically change its looks, instead, it undergoes a mild refreshing. The front end and hood are new, as is the rear liftgate. The crossover profile remains the same.
