Yahoo Autos Ford Will Now Sell You Its 7.3-Liter 'Godzilla' V-8 as a Crate Engine
Ford revealed an all-new 7.3-liter, gasoline-powered, naturally aspirated V-8 engine for its Super Duty trucks back in 2019. Nicknamed "Godzilla," the push-rod unit immediately piqued our interests, standing out amongst its mostly diesel, turbocharged competitors. Now, the motor is finally available to buy directly from Ford.
The 7.3-liter V-8 recently appeared on the Ford Performance parts and accessories site as a fully assembled crate engine, priced at $8150. Rated at the same 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque as it is when found in the F-250, the package includes ignition coils, wires, an oil pan, an oil cooler, the intake and throttle body, and both exhaust manifolds.
Though originally designed for truck applications, Ford's 7.3-liter V-8 benefits from the same compact camshaft-in-block design found in Chevy's iconic LS motors, meaning it could fit into a variety of engine bays—if you replace that lengthy oil pan with something a bit shorter, that is. And as we've seen in the past, the engine can make north of 600 horsepower after a few simple mods.
In a world where turbochargers and small displacement reign supreme, we're glad Ford is still able to offer something like this. According to the company's website, it's available now for purchase.
