Popes drive it. Shieks drive it. Even famous Gleeks drive it. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class -- known to its fans by the original Gelandewagen name from its creation as a military-class hauler -- has been a trophy off-roader for decades among the world's wealthy. The 2013 version that Mercedes will unveil at the Beijing Auto Show this month sticks with the formula and includes just a few tweaks, like the LED light strip under the headlamps. Americans willing to spend at least $100,000 on a square SUV can choose bewteen a 388-hp G550 or a G63 AMG version good for 544 hp -- but Mercedes will keep the storming G65 AMG powered by a 603-hp V12 out of the country for now.
