Robot dogs with flamethrowers for sale by Cleveland-based company

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Robot dogs wielding flamethrowers — it sounds like something straight out of a science fiction movie, but a Cleveland-based company says they’re up for sale to customers in the United States.

Throwflame, considered the oldest flamethrower manufacturer in the country, released the fiery robot dog named the “Thermonator” in the third quarter of last year.

On Friday, the company announced that the “Thermonator” was officially back in stock, sharing new promotional video of the robotic canine in a Facebook post.

According to the company’s description, the remote-operated “Thermonator,” a Go2 Robot Dog carrying an ARC Flamethrower, has a 30-foot firing range, laser sighting and a one-hour battery life.

“Thermonator is the first-ever flamethrower-wielding robot dog. This quadruped is coupled with the ARC Flamethrower to deliver on-demand fire anywhere!” the product description reads.

Throwflame says the product can be used (responsibly) for wildlife control, agriculture, ecological conservation, snow and ice removal and special effects purposes.

According to the website, “Thermonator” costs $9,420 with free shipping in the U.S.

When asked if it’s legal, the company points out that flamethrowers are “federally unregulated tools and are not considered a firearm by the ATF.” Flamethrowers are banned in Maryland and require a permit in California.

However, the company says customers are responsible with making sure that owning or using any of their products doesn’t violate state or local laws and regulations.

The Cleveland-based company released its first flamethrower, the X15, in 2015. The company has also released flame-throwing drones.
