Frigidaire and Kenmore stoves recalled over fire hazard

(WHTM) — If you bought a stove at Sears or other retailers between 2001 and 2009, it may be recalled.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said 200,000 Frigidaire and Kenmore ovens could turn on spontaneously, fail to shut off, or heat to a different temperature than selected.

The ovens — which were previously recalled for a similar hazard in 2009 — were sold between June 2001 and August 2009 at Sears and independent retailers.

The recall involves involves Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional, and Kenmore Elite smooth-top electric ranges.

Since the first recall, 212 reports had been received of “ranges behaving erratically,” including 14 fires and eight burn injuries.

Those with impacted stoves should contact Electrolux toll-free at 888-845-8226 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at potentiometerrecall@electrolux.com or online.

Consumers should also avoid leaving anything on the stove when it is not in use.

If it is repairable, a free inspection or repair will be scheduled. If not, a $50 electronic gift card and reimbursement for $60 for the haul-away fee will be paid, once proof of purchase of a new range has been shown.
