Emma Morano is the oldest person in Europe and the fifth oldest person in the world. She’s a member of a rare club of centenarians who have far surpassed the 100 year mark. “115 years are a lot,” the Italian told the New York Times. So how’d she make it so long? When she was a teenager, a doctor recommended she eat three raw eggs every day to combat anemia. So she did.

Perhaps more interesting than her dietary tricks for longevity, is the fact that Morano credits staying single as one of the reasons she’s lived through so much (two World Wars, invention of the Internet, and so much more!). Her first and only marriage ended in 1938 after her infant son died — before divorce and separation was socially acceptable — and she’s been happily on her own ever since. “I didn’t want to be dominated by anyone,” she said.

Morano was born on Nov. 29, 1899 and is currently the fifth oldest person in the world.
