The Haas Formula 1 team announced today it's signed a "multi-year" deal with Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time champion Michael, to start racing in 2021. Schumacher will drive alongside fellow rookie Nikita Mazepin, who was announced as a driver for the team earlier this week.

The duo will replace current Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean, who we've known for about a month were set to depart the team at the end of the 2020 season.

Schumacher, 21, currently leads the Formula 2 championship by 14 points with one race remaining. The German driver has been backed by the Ferrari driver academy throughout his career, so it makes sense he'd be signed with Haas, a team that has close ties with Ferrari.

“The prospect of being on the Formula 1 grid next year makes me incredibly happy and I’m simply speechless,” Schumacher said in a statement. “I would like to thank Haas F1 Team, Scuderia Ferrari and the Ferrari Driver Academy for placing their trust in me. I also want to acknowledge and extend my love to my parents—I know that I owe them everything. I have always believed that I would realize my dream of Formula 1."
