  • Lewis Hamilton tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Sunday's race in Bahrain.

  • The missed race will end Hamilton's F1-record streak of 265 consecutive race starts.

  • Hamilton has already clinched the 2020 Formula 1 championship.

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton will miss Sunday's F1 Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain after testing positive for COVID-19.

Hamilton and the team posted to their social media platforms about the diagnosis on Tuesday. The positive test came on Monday after Hamilton won the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday. The win tied his career-best streak of five consecutive wins in Formula 1.

The missed race will also end Hamilton's current streak of 265 consecutive race starts, which is a Formula 1 record.

Hamilton is the third Formula 1 driver to test positive and miss races due to COVID-19. Earlier this season, Racing Point driver Sergio Perez missed two races, while Perez 's teammate Lance Stroll missed one race.

The missed race on Sunday in Bahrain will have no bearing on Hamilton's championship. He's already clinched his seventh championship, while his Mercedes team has clinched the 2020 F1 Constructors' Championship.
