Woman skydiving in DeLand injured in hard landing

A skydiver suffered a hard landing Tuesday morning at Skydive DeLand and suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Tuesday and was the second in a week at the skydiving facility at the city's municipal airport.

"Looks like a hard landing. (The) female victim was transported non-emergency," DeLand spokeswoman Vicki Karr said to the News-Journal.

On April 1, Giulianno Scotti, 42, of Brazil, was killed when he collided in midair with another skydiver and fell to the ground, DeLand police said.

Scotti fell in the 1600 block of Lexington Avenue. Responding units attempted life-saving measures, but Scotti was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.

First responders treated the second skydiver on the scene for minor injuries.
