Woman pleads no contest in claw hammer, dog attack

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A woman who authorities said attacked her boyfriend with a claw hammer and frying pan, and directed a pit bull to bite him, has pleaded no contest to a charge of mayhem.

Other charges brought against Angela Hagar, including aggravated mayhem and torture, were dismissed under Friday’s plea bargain, according to court records. Sentencing is set for May 2.

Hagar stood trial earlier this year, and a jury acquitted her of attempted murder and deadlocked on the remaining charges.

The boyfriend told deputies he woke April 6, 2023, to Hagar on his back choking him with a rope. He said she called to a pit bull that bit his arm, body and face.

The man told deputies Hagar also beat him with a claw hammer and frying pan. Bone showed through the skin where the dog mauled his left arm, deputies said in a court filing.
