What’s at stake in SCOTUS’s abortion pill case
The Supreme Court will hear arguments today over whether the FDA overlooked safety concerns to make mifepristone, one of two drugs needed for medical abortions, easier to obtain.
The plaintiffs’ case: The group suing the FDA argues that mifepristone has led to “tens of thousands” of “emergency complications,” a claim disputed by several medical organizations. [AP]
The government’s case: The FDA says the drug, which was approved in 2000, is “extremely safe” and that studies show that “serious adverse events are exceedingly rare.” [Reuters]
Potential consequences: In addition to cutting off telemedicine prescriptions and pills sent by mail, a ruling could have broader implications for how the FDA approves other drugs. [New York Times]

...to get you prepped for Easter
Looking ahead: Easter is this weekend. I asked Amanda Garrity, our resident gift guides editor, about the best Easter basket stuffers and more.
Lily: What are some good Easter basket stuffers for kids this year?
Amanda: Play-Doh and chalk eggs are a nice change from sweets. If you want an activity on Easter, you could throw in the Peeps egg decorator.
Lily: If you’re going to do adult Easter baskets, what’s a good item to include?
Amanda: I’d go for a pack of individually wrapped shower steamers. Most adults I know could use some R & R after the Easter festivities!
Lily: For those headed out to an Easter celebration: What’s a good gift for the host?
Amanda: Fresh tulips are a no-brainer. You can trim some blooms from your garden or pick them up at a grocery store on the way.
