Warminster man charged with bigamy. He's had 6 wives, sometimes more than 1 at same time: DA

Larry Fiel has been married six times since the 1980s — a couple times to more than one woman at the same time, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

For allegedly marrying wife No. 6 seven months before divorcing wife No. 5, the 68-year-old Warminster man is facing a charge of bigamy and tampering with public records, both misdemeanor crimes in Pennsylvania.

Bigamy is a rarely prosecuted offense in Bucks County. The last time someone was charged was 2015, DA spokesman Manuel Gamiz said.

Attorney Daniel Jason Schatz, who represents Fiel, did not immediately return a phone call Thursday seeking comment.

Fiel was charged with the crimes earlier in March roughly a month after Bucks County Detectives opened an investigation. Charging documents in the case do not say what prompted the county to look into the bigamy allegations.

Bucks County Detectives allege marriage and divorce records show Fiel married his fifth wife in October 2010 and they were divorced in June 2023, according to a probable cause affidavit.

But another marriage license filed in Bucks County court showed Fiel and his current wife were married in November 2022, leaving a seven month overlap.

Detectives learned that when Fiel filled out his marriage application in September 2022, he stated his “last marriage” ended in divorce in September 2010. Montgomery County records, though, show his 2010 divorce was to wife No. 4.

When detectives looked back even further they found three more wives, who may have been simultaneously married to Fiel in the 1980s.

Montgomery County records showed Fiel was still married to his second wife when he divorced his third wife in June 1986.  He divorced his second wife in February 1988, according to the affidavit.

The detectives also found records showing Fiel married his second wife, five days after divorcing his first wife in July 1981.

When detectives interviewed Fiel, he admitted that several fields in the current marriage application contained wrong information, the affidavit said. The detectives alleged the  “same mistakes” were made on previous marriage licenses.

Fiel has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April.
