Nina Dobrev has revealed that she’s recovering in hospital following a bike accident.

The Vampire Diaries star took to Instagram on Monday (May 20) to share a photo of herself posing on an electric bike, alongside another of herself lying in a hospital bed while sporting a gown, a neck brace, and a knee brace.

"How it started vs how it's going," she captioned the post.

In another update later posted to her Instagram Story, the actor added: "I'm OK but it's going to be a long road of recovery ahead."

Kayla Ewell, who also starred on the show, commented: "Making the hospital gown the new spring trend. Love you! Handling it like a champ!"

"Still managing to look gorge in a hospital bed," added Buffy’s Sarah Michelle Gellar, while New Girl star Zooey Deschanel said: "Noooo. Hope you have a speedy recovery!"

Dobrev is perhaps best known for her roles as Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce on The Vampire Diaries, which ran for eight seasons between 2009 and 2017.

While there have been rumblings of a remake, Dobrev's former on-screen love interest Paul Wesley has already said that he has no interest in reprising his role as Stefan Salvatore.

"I would never do another vampire anything, period, let alone The Vampire Diaries," he shared last year. "I don't really miss anything about playing him, and I don't mean that in a [negative way]. Eight years is a long time, and I'm so glad to put that to rest."
