Mashable's reporting confirmed Godfrey as the person behind the account. Another interview with the New York Times revealed that mental health will be "the first of several causes" which the egg will help promote. Godfrey said the egg's popularity grew organically, adding that claims of its creators paying influencers to spread the word or people taking credit to boost its audience are untrue.
