A Used Porsche 911 R Is Insanely Expensive

From Road & Track

The Porsche 911 R's spec sheet reads like a car enthusiast's wish list. Its 4.0-liter flat six makes 500 horsepower, and it sends that power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. It's also 110 pounds lighter than the 911 GT3 RS and has a top speed of 200 mph. When it was announced, we had a feeling the 911 R would be desirable, but there's no way we could have predicted exactly how desirable it would actually be.

According to Motoring Research, 911 Rs are already going for more than $1 million, with asking prices reaching as high as $1.3 million. Considering that only 991 will be made, it's understandable that people would be willing to pay a premium to own one, but at the same time, $1.3 million is an insane amount of money.

As Motoring Research points out, the 911 R has appreciated at a rate that even blows the Ferrari LaFerrari away. The Italian hypercar has, after all, only doubled in value since it was introduced.

So for anyone who was looking to wait a few years and pick up a 911 R on the cheap, we regret to inform you that's probably not going to happen. Ever. But the good news is, the demand for the 911 R shows that enthusiasts are still incredibly interested in light, powerful, manual-only sports cars.

Maybe more automakers will see that as reason to offer something similar.
