USDA grants funding to local provider for telemedicine, healthcare

May 2—CORBIN — The U.S Department of Agriculture has granted Trinity Family Health Inc. $76,000 in funding.

The funding has been marked to be used for telemedicine, which helps for rural individuals more easily receive the care that they need without having to physically visit a doctor's office.

The funding comes as a result of a recent effort in the federal government called the Rural Partner Network.

The Rural Partner Network was established two years ago. The program primarily provides economic assistance to rural areas who are in need of it, either in the form of loans or in grants.

"In just two years, the Rural Partners Network has shown that incredible progress is possible when people inside and outside government from all walks of life work together to solve problems and better serve rural people," said Agriculture Deputy Secretary Torres Small.

The description of the project reads: "This rural development investment will be used to equip three hub/end-user sites in Knox and Clay Counties in Kentucky with telemedicine equipment and software to support telemedicine capacity enhancement. Medical professionals located at Trinity Family Health will provide primary care, behavioral health care, chronic case management, psychiatric mental health treatment, and voluntary family planning services to three locations benefitting 1,000 patients."

Trinity operates locations in Corbin and Manchester.
