University of Washington to hire Washington State University’s Pat Chun, ESPN reports

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The University of Washington is finalizing a six-year deal to hire Washington State University’s Athletic Director Pat Chun as the Huskies’ new athletic director, according to ESPN.

The deal comes after University of Washington’s Troy Dannen was hired by the University Nebraska on Wednesday for an athletic director role.

In January 2018, Chun joined Washington State, where he was also selected to serve on the College Football Playoff committee and helped “manage the university’s future in the aftermath of mass departures from the Pac-12,” ESPN said.

“His ability to lead an athletic department during financial challenges was valued, as Washington faces significant stadium debt. The school also must find ways to be competitive in the Big Ten while only receiving half of the television revenue — along with Oregon — of its peers through 2029-30,” ESPN said.

While serving as Washington State’s athletic director, Chun promoted Jake Dickert to head football coach, leading to two bowl appearances, and hired Kamie Ethridge as the women’s basketball coach, as she led the team to the Pac-12 tournament title in 2023, ESPN reports.

Chun previously served as an executive associate athletic director at Ohio State and was an athletic director for Florida Atlantic University and University of Nebraska.
