May 22—A Milledgeville man whose body was discovered on a county road in Baldwin County early Sunday was hit by a passing motorist, authorities say.

The man was identified by Baldwin County Chief Deputy Coroner Ken Garland as Damon Scott Dukes, 21.

He died from blunt force trauma and Garland pronounced him dead at the scene at 1 a.m. Sunday.

Sgt. First Class Kevin Pope, commander of the Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville, said in a report that Dukes was hit by the driver of a red Honda Civic, which was traveling southbound on Colony Farm Road.

Pope said the victim, whom he described as a pedestrian, was wearing all black clothing and lying in the roadway.

After the driver hit the victim in the roadway, he traveled just a short distance up the road before turning around, Pope said.

The investigating state trooper said the victim was administered CPR by deputies with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office when they first arrived on the scene, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

A blood sample from the victim was obtained by the chief deputy coroner, who since has sent it to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory for toxicology testing.
