Tractor-trailer fire in Potsdam led to highway closure

Apr. 25—POTSDAM — A tractor-trailer burned on Monday near a residential area, leading to the temporary closure of Route 11B. Potsdam firefighters and rescue squad members were dispatched to 238 Route 11B around 2:55 p.m.

Arriving two minutes later, firefighters found the vehicle burning near buildings. West Stockholm firefighters also responded.

Firefighters deployed hoses to douse the flames and took measures to cool down the nearby garage. Using thermal imaging technology, they ensured no fire had spread to the garage.

The fire was difficult to extinguish, given the trailer's contents of lawn mower parts and an adjacent woodpile. Firefighters dismantled the trailer to address hotspots.

There were no reported injuries. Fire officials determined the fire to be accidental.

Potsdam village police aided in traffic control. The fire department concluded its operation at 5:28 p.m.

On April 19, a car caught fire on the Clarkson University campus.

The incident was reported at 11:10 p.m., prompting responses from Potsdam firefighters and the rescue squad.

Firefighters used a hose line to put it out. Officials at the scene determined it started in the engine compartment. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed by Skippy's Towing.
