Thomasville woman killed in boating accident

Apr. 17—TALLAHASSEE- Thomas County residents are mourning the loss of one of their own after a fatal boating accident at Lake Iamonia claimed the life of Makenna Greene.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Division of Law Enforcement, the accident happened on Sunday, April 7, 2024, near Bull Headly Landing in Leon County.

Reports state that at approximately 4:49 p.m., two vessels were in the area of Strickland Arm when they came around an area they referred to as "an island." The island made it difficult to see through in opposite directions. However, when the two vessels, an open motorboat and an airboat, saw each other, they were not able to take action in enough time, resulting in a collision.

The collision caused Greene to be ejected into the water, where she suffered traumatic injuries resulting in her death. Kayla Jordan Smith, who was also on the motorboat with Greene, was injured during the incident and was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A service for Greene was held at Allen and Allen Funeral Home on Saturday, April 13, where friends and family gathered to share sweet messages. Both Smith and fellow passenger Jacob McMillan were in attendance.

"She is the definition of God sent," said Smith

McMillan agreed, saying "The memory of your (Makenna) beautiful face, vibrant smile, and unforgettable personality will forever go with me."

Greene is survived by her parents, Bettina and Richard Greene, brother Peyton Greene and sister Ansley Sinclair White.
